Bayern Munich, Germany, is close to qualifying for the quarter-finals of the European Champions League after its big victory over Lazio, Italy, 4-1, and Chelsea, England, returned with a precious 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the first leg of the 16th round of the tournament.

Bayern Munich's goals were scored by Robert Lewandowski in the ninth minute, Jamal Musiala in the 24th minute, Leroy Sane in the 41st minute, and Francesco Acherby, the Lazio player, by mistake in his team's goal in the 47th minute.

While Joaquín Correa scored a goal by Lazio in the 49th minute.

The return match between the two teams will be held in Germany on March 17th.

Bayern rose to this role after occupying the top of Group A with 16 points, while Lazio rose after finishing second in Group F with 10 points.

Bayern Munich tops the Bundesliga standings with 49 points, while Lazio ranks sixth in the Italian league with 43 points.

Chelsea also put ahead in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, by defeating its Spanish host Atlético Madrid with an unanswered goal scored by French striker Olivier Giroud in the 70th minute.

The two teams meet in the return leg on March 17th at Stamford Bridge.
