General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions
has granted
Iñaki Urdangarin
the transfer to the Alava prison of Zaballa, where as of next week he will continue to serve his sentence, according to 'ABC' has advanced and this newspaper has confirmed.
The brother-in-law of
King Felipe VI
will be one of the participants in the economic crimes program promoted by the department directed by
Ángel Luis Ortiz
, a project that seeks to be implemented in Spanish prisons and that, with the help of professionals, intends to delve into those personal and situational factors that favored the commission of the crime.
Inmates sign up voluntarily.
Urdangarin will complete it in the open section of the Basque penitentiary.
His arrival in
Zaballa
takes place a month after the Penitentiary Surveillance Court granted him the third degree, so since then he was in semi-freedom and only had to sleep daily in the Social Insertion Center (CIS) of Alcalá de Henares.
His prison routines will not change: he will return to sleep and enjoy the weekends in freedom.
In his two and a half years in prison, Iñaki UrdangarinI has had other exit permits as well as to assist volunteering in an NGO in Pozuelo de Alarcón, in application of article 117 of the Penitentiary Regulations
Urdangarin chose the
Brieva
women's prison
, in Ávila, to serve his sentence of five years and ten months for corruption in the 'Nóos case'.
His imprisonment occurred on June 18, 2018.
