If you are facing a purchase of a holiday home, it is important to think through how much work you are willing to spend on renovation, says Claudia Wörmann who is a housing economist at SBAB.

- I think you should have as realistic a view of your purchase of holiday homes as possible.

I fully understand that you watch interior design reports and TV depictions where it seems very easy to realize your dream, but once you sit in it yourself, it can be difficult to orchestrate a renovation at a distance, says Claudia Wörmann.

More expensive may be better

Today, it can be difficult to separate a holiday home from a villa and if you can afford it, it may therefore be worth buying something a little more expensive to get a higher standard that allows you to use the house for larger parts of the year, she says.

Another factor is the distance between the home and the holiday home.

Right now, many see teleworking from a holiday home as a good solution, but Claudia Wörmann believes that it is important to think about what even the possibilities for this look like even after the pandemic.

- It may not be as controlled by the individual as by the employer, but you have to think about how to use your holiday home even after covid, she says.
