Because of the debate about the construction of single-family houses, CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak has brought the Greens closer to socialism.

Under their "bourgeois icing" they are not a bourgeois party, emphasized Ziemiak in Berlin.

Rather, the Greens would have an image of Germany "as we found it more in socialism than in a country where people are free to decide how and, above all, in which houses they live".

The background is a “Spiegel” interview in which the Green parliamentary group leader Anton Hofreiter had supported the decision of a Hamburg district office not to include single-family houses in the development plans because of the housing shortage there.

At the same time he made it clear: "Of course the Greens do not want to ban their own four walls."

Nevertheless, Hofreiter's party was accused of wanting to ban the construction of single-family houses, although Greens boss Robert Habeck expressly objected.

Ziemiak now also took the view "that the Greens have dropped their mask".
