All nine municipalities in Sörmland, with the exception of Flen, grew last year.

Three municipalities stand out when it comes to population growth: Strängnäs, Nyköping and Trosa.

In Strängnäs, 37,290 people lived on 31 December, which is an increase of 746 people compared with the year before.

At the end of the year, Nyköping had 57,071 inhabitants and this is an increase of 480 people.

The increase is welcomed

But the largest increase in terms of population is Trosa municipality.

As many as 562 more people, or 4.2 percent, lived in Trosa at the turn of the year compared with the year before.

The increase means greater tax revenues and is welcomed by the chairman of the municipal board, Daniel Portnoff (M).

- Population growth is the very basis for developing a municipality in a good way.

To increase the service and ensure that you can invest in things.

"Infrastructure a challenge"

He is not surprised by the increase.

- Very many construction projects were completed last year, and then there will be a high influx.

But it is also the case that Trosa is an attractive municipality to live in.

You are not worried that you are growing too fast?

- I do not worry, it is the wrong expression but it is a challenge to make sure that you are involved in expanding infrastructure and service.

In the long run, it is very difficult to expect such high growth, and that is not what we are planning for, but it will be lower in the coming years.
