Temperatures in the US state of Texas have now started to rise after last week's cold wave.

But despite this, many people are still without electricity and water and this weekend US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency in the state, which is now working hard to repair all damage, reports the BBC.

"Tough week"

One of those affected by the extreme cold is Rebecka Pitre from Malmö who lives in Austin with her family.

In SVT's Morgonstudion, she tells that they were without water and electricity for almost a week.

- It has been a very tough week, with challenges I never thought we would have to go through.

The water came back today, but we have had a very hard time.

We have been snowed in so we have not been able to get anywhere, she says in the program.

She says that last week it was between 16 and 20 degrees below zero during the day, which are temperatures that society is not prepared for.

Grocery stores empty

- On Wednesday, I felt that this was too much.

Then my one-year-old daughter and I sat in the house and froze.

It was almost zero degrees inside because we have no insulation.

We have dressed everything, as a mother I have felt that it has been very difficult, says Rebecka Pitre.

Despite the fact that temperatures are now rising and the snow is melting away, the shelves in the grocery stores are still empty.

- I hope that everything turns around and that people get the help they need and that there is food on the shelves in the shops again, says Rebecka Pitre.
