Hanover (dpa / lni) - In the Hanover region, the corona infection process is far more tense than the national average.

According to the authorities, almost 50 percent of corona infections are now due to the British virus variant, which, according to conservative estimates, is 35 percent more contagious.

Nationwide it was 22 percent according to the last known status last Wednesday.

The positive rate of the tests mediated by the health department in Hanover is currently around 13.7 percent, said a regional spokesman on Monday of the dpa.

Nationwide, on the other hand, only just under 6.5 percent of the tests were positive in the sixth calendar week, according to the data from the Robert Koch Institute.

The higher the positive rate with a high number of cases, the higher the estimated number of unreported cases.

The Hanover region initiated around 7,000 tests in December, around 12,000 in January. In mid-February there were also around 7,500. The infection process is diffuse and is mainly distributed over the private sector, said the spokesman.

The health department is currently working with around 700 people to contain the corona virus.

The State Health Office reported a seven-day value of 125.5 for the Hanover region on Monday.

Because it has just under 1.2 million inhabitants, this number also has a significant impact on the national value, which was 67.1 on Monday.

In the most recent federal-state talks, easing of the seven-day value of 35 or more had been agreed.
