There is currently a widespread societal spread of the British mutation in the coronavirus.

The proportion of mutated virus variants has increased over the past four weeks, and during week seven the figure for the number of positive infections with a mutated virus was 42.8 percent.

In light of the worrying spread, the infection control doctor in Gävleborg, Shah Jalal, has now decided to introduce new, stricter recommendations in Gävleborg, which will take effect from Tuesday 23 February.

New recommendations

The first new recommendation is that the citizens of Gävleborg are recommended to use disposable mouth guards in situations where close contact, for a long time in an indoor environment, cannot be avoided.

These can be, for example, workplaces where it is difficult to keep your distance.

Mouthguards should now also be used in public transport at all times and not just during rush hour.

This applies to people born in 2004 and earlier.

The other new recommendation is that employees at operations in the county, where a major outbreak is expected to occur, are recommended to avoid staying out in the community.

This is to minimize encounters with other people.

However, people who have recovered from a covid-19 infection during the past six months are exempt from the recommendation.

Previous recommendations

Three more recommendations already apply.

Among other things, you should limit the number of new close contacts by only hanging out with people you normally meet.

You should continue to work from home as often as you can, and refrain from staying in indoor environments such as public transport, shopping centers and shops.
