Rome (AP) - Hansi Flick seems to be planning a key role for Leon Goretzka in Bayern's Champions League game at Lazio.

The Munich coach spoke to the national soccer player for a long time on Monday on the club grounds before the start of the final training session.

It is speculated that Goretzka could replace the still missing Thomas Müller (corona pandemic) as a driver in the attacking midfield in the first leg of the first leg on Tuesday (9:00 p.m. / Sky) in the Stadio Olimpico.

Flick had praised Goretzka after his 45-minute comeback in the 1: 2 against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga last weekend for an astonishingly good performance after his corona infection.

"He was extremely aggressive and had a lot of ball wins," said Flick.

Goretzka transferred "a positive energy" to the team.

In Rome, Goretzka is likely to start again.

Especially since the defending champion's personnel problems remain large.

In addition to vice-captain Müller, Serge Gnabry and Benjamin Pavard as well as Corentin Tolisso and Douglas Costa are also out.

Flick's assistant Miroslav Klose, who played for Lazio from 2011 to 2016, had intensive discussions with Robert Lewandowski during training.

For the world footballer there will be a duel between the striker and Lazio attacker Ciro Immobile in Rome.

The 31-year-old Italian failed in 2014 to successfully succeed Lewandowski, who had moved to Munich at the time, at Borussia Dortmund.
