Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate state government has welcomed the opportunity for a faster vaccination of teachers at primary and special schools as well as educators in daycare centers.

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer and Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthaler (both SPD) announced on Monday evening that the country will soon offer employees a vaccination.

Dreyer wanted to explain more details on Tuesday after the meeting of the Rhineland-Palatinate Council of Ministers.

The chairman of the state health ministers, Bavaria's head of department Klaus Holetschek (CSU), had announced after a consultation with Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) that teachers at elementary and special schools and kindergarten teachers should be able to be vaccinated earlier than previously planned.

These employees should be brought forward from the third to the second group of the vaccination sequence, as far as the necessary vaccine is available in the countries.

The federal states would have voted in favor of this new regulation without opposing votes, explained Holetschek.

"The vaccination of educators and our primary school teachers is a very important component in the health and infection protection of our daycare centers and schools," said Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD).

Children and young people suffered enormously from the lockdown.

The more normality that can be restored to them, the better.
