Dresden (dpa / sn) - Dresden gets 73 new buses for local public transport.

On Monday, Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, Martin Dulig, presented the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) with a corresponding funding notification from the European Regional Development Fund.

"An attractive local transport is also characterized by modern and resource-saving vehicles," said the SPD politician.

The future use of the new buses in the Dresden city area should help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 1,186 tons per year.

According to DVB, the modern buses are replacing the old vehicles, some of which have a mileage of more than a million kilometers on the odometer and now require enormous repairs.

“The engines of the new vehicles will meet the highest environmental standards.

In the practical test, they do not emit more nitrogen oxides than a single diesel car, ”said DVB board member Andreas Hemmersbach.
