Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - A digital premiere, events with the help of the Internet and an open air closing church service are part of the program of the 3rd Ecumenical Church Congress in May.

A spokesman for the Catholic Council in the diocese of Fulda reported that the Presidium had specified the process and program of the now decentralized and digital Church Congress, citing a member of the Presidium.

The corona pandemic had forced the organizers to change their original concept, which was planned as a meeting of denominations in the multicultural main metropolis of Frankfurt.

As on previous church days, there will be television broadcasts of the opening service on May 13, it said.

The following day will begin with a digital commemoration from the Westend Synagogue in Frankfurt and end with a ceremony in the evening with the digital world premiere of an ecumenical oratorio.

Instead of discussions, meetings and Bible conversations, for example on the originally planned Kirchentag site, there will be digital offers.

The Kirchentag ends with an ecumenical closing service open air by the Weseler shipyard and is led by the Limburg bishop and chairman of the German bishops' conference, Georg Bätzing, church president Volker Jung and archpriest Constantin Miron, it said.

The motto of the Kirchentag is “Take a look”.
