Munich (dpa) - After the introduction of stricter controls at the borders with Tyrol and the Czech Republic, many Bavarian companies are complaining about obstacles to their work.

In a survey by the Bavarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 47 percent of the around 1,500 companies surveyed said that they felt the negative consequences of the controls.

In the border regions it was even 59 percent, as the BIHK announced on Monday in Munich.

The main complaints are therefore the costs and time required for corona tests and waiting at the borders.

That's what 66 percent of the companies that feel negative effects answered.

Delays in the supply chain followed in second place (62 percent).

As expected, the logistics and transport sectors were particularly hard hit, with 78 percent of the companies surveyed reporting negative consequences of border controls, followed by industry (55 percent) and the construction sector (52 percent).

"The companies in Bavaria, the Czech Republic and Tyrol depend on the smooth exchange of goods, services and employees," said BIHK Managing Director Manfred Gößl.

"Tyrol plays an outstanding role as a transit country for our freight traffic with Italy."

The BIHK boss called for significantly faster tests for drivers and commuters at the borders as well as express processing for goods and transit traffic.

More than a quarter of the companies surveyed stated that cross-border commuters no longer come to work, in the border regions the figure was as high as 40 percent.

Almost one in ten companies surveyed reported full or partial closures.
