A more than surprising scene occurred this Sunday morning in San Francisco.
An entire house was moved from street to street, transported on a huge truck, reports the
San Francisco Chronicle
.
The large 139-year-old Victorian mansion has been relocated six blocks from its former location.
The land on which it stood was sold to a real estate developer but it was out of the question to destroy the mint green house, with its typical American city architecture.
Its not everyday you see a 140-year-old two-story Victorian moving down the street in San Francisco.
The house is being moved from 807 Franklin Street to 635 Fulton Street.

A move to $ 400,000
The operation began early in the morning.
The house was loaded onto a truck under the watchful eye of engineers and workers.
The heavy truck then drove off, never driving above 1.6 km / h.
Along the way, many signs had been moved and workers had to cut tree branches to avoid damaging the house,

This impressive move, which cost the modest sum of $ 400,000, had been planned for years.
"We had to get permission from 15 different agencies in the city, or maybe 18, I don't remember," the man in charge of the project told the

Onlookers lined the sidewalks to snap photos as the 139-year-old structure rolled at a top speed of 1 mph.

On the former land of the house, the developer will now build an eight-storey building containing 48 apartments.
The Victorian house, for its part, reached its new address without a hitch.
The building will need major work before it can be inhabited again.
