Wilkau-Haßlau (dpa / sn) - The confectionery manufacturer Haribo has stopped the ongoing dismantling of the machinery in the Wilkau-Haßlau plant, according to the food-enjoyment-restaurants union (NGG).

This increases the hope that the company will negotiate seriously with the confectionery competitor Katjes, the NGG announced on Sunday.

"The dismantling work, which began in December, involves internal processes that we do not comment publicly," emphasized a Haribo spokesman on dpa request on Sunday.

At the beginning of February it became known that the confectionery manufacturer Katjes was interested in taking over the plant in the Zwickau district.

The company had declared that the prerequisite was that vegetarian sweets could be made there.

According to the Haribo spokesman, both companies have signed a non-disclosure agreement.

This is a prerequisite for exploring a takeover of the plant.

Therefore, no details of the ongoing process could be given.

In addition, the Haribo spokesman emphasized on Sunday that all seriously interested parties will be spoken to.

"Nevertheless, every offer must be checked for seriousness, economic plausibility and sustainability."

Haribo had shut down production at its only plant in eastern Germany at the end of 2020.

Of the 150 employees, 30 to 40 have now found a new job elsewhere, it said.
