Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's cities and municipalities have requested more support from the state in the fight against dilapidated buildings with often unclear ownership.

In the case of so-called scrap real estate, it usually does not fail because of the will of the municipalities to remove them, said the managing director of the Saxon City and Municipal Association, Mischa Woitscheck, the German press agency.

Reasons are rather limited staff and little financial leeway.

Some of the state's state programs could actually help cities and municipalities.

"Unfortunately, these programs have been significantly underfunded for years," complained Woitscheck.

"We would like a stronger financial commitment from the Free State of Saxony here."

In the draft of the next double budget for 2021/2022, only three or five million euros are earmarked for corresponding state programs as aid.
