Governor Ogawa of Fukuoka Prefecture, who is hospitalized for cancer, has decided to resign in order to concentrate on treatment, and is making adjustments to announce it on the 22nd.

Governor Ogawa of Fukuoka Prefecture was re-admitted to Kyushu University Hospital on the 20th of last month, following December last year, due to symptoms of coughing and suffocation.



After that, I was diagnosed with primary lung adenocarcinoma, so I am still hospitalized and continuing treatment, and Vice Governor Hattori is taking over the duties.



According to the people concerned, Governor Ogawa decided to resign, leaving his term until April next year, in order to concentrate on treatment, and told the surroundings so far.



And it is said that the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly is making adjustments to announce it on the 22nd when it opens.



Governor Ogawa is 71 years old.



After joining the former Ministry of International Trade and Industry, after working as Commissioner of the Patent Office and Cabinet Public Relations Secretary, he was elected for the first time in the 2011 Fukuoka Governor's election, and is currently in the third term to deal with the new coronavirus.



If Governor Ogawa's request for resignation is submitted to the chairman of the prefectural assembly, the chairman will then notify the prefectural election administration committee.



And, according to the Public Offices Election Law, the governor's election will be held within 50 days from the day after the day when the prefectural election administration committee receives the notice of resignation.
