Invited from Europe Evening Sunday, the new member of the Scientific Council, Olivier Guérin, suggests the possibility that the Alpes-Maritimes are ahead of "two to three weeks" on the rest of the territory from a health point of view.

He is also skeptical about the provision of strict containment.

INTERVIEW

Is the situation in the Alpes-Maritimes a preamble to what awaits the other French departments?

While Nice and the coastal strip should experience confinement for the next two weekends, the head of the geriatrics pole of the Nice University Hospital and new member of the Scientific Council Olivier Guérin answers in the affirmative.

"The increase in the prevalence of the British variant is a worrying factor for the whole country," he reminded the microphone of

Europe Soir on

Sunday.

"And in this context, we can imagine that the Alpes-Maritimes are two to three weeks ahead of most of the territories of metropolitan France."

Generalization of local restrictions?

With a reproduction rate of the virus three times higher than the national average, the Alpes-Maritimes could therefore be the first department to experiment with a new government strategy based on localized restrictions.

If he indicates "not to have a crystal ball", Olivier Guérin admits that "it is possible" while recalling in this context the importance of respecting barrier gestures.

Take back control

Asked also about the proposal of the former Minister of Health Philippe Douste-Blazy, in an interview with the

Journal du dimanche,

of "strict confinement of four weeks to (...) regain control of the epidemic", the member of the Scientific Council is skeptical.

"Personally, I am not convinced that this is really possible. But it is certain that strict containment for a month would greatly reduce the level of" circulation of the virus.

But from there to saying that this will help eradicate the viral spread, "that still has to be proven."
