Dortmund (AP) - Kevin Kranz has set the German record as indoor champion over 60 meters.

The 22-year-old from the Wetzlar sprint team won the national track and field championships in Dortmund in 6.52 seconds.

The record of Julian Reus, who was missing in the Rudolf-Körnig-Halle due to weakness in shape, has been in Leipzig since 2016.

Kranz already improved to 6.55 seconds in the semifinals.

In the final, the U23 European champion then left Julian Wagner from Erfurt (6.59) and his club colleague Michael Pohl (6.60) behind.

Before that, Wattenscheider Erik Balnuweit had already won his eighth title in the 60 meter hurdles.

The 32-year-old was the first champion twelve years ago and now crossed the finish line first after 7.70 seconds.

The title fights take place under strict hygiene measures and without spectators.

There are a total of 250 participants over the weekend.
