Ungdomsförbundet Ung Vänster writes the following in its program of principles from January 2021:

The Young Left analyzes reality and shapes its policies with the help of Marxist and feminist theories.

Our goal is a classless society, free from oppression - a communist society. "

Criticized stance

The goal of a communist society is really nothing new within the Young Left.

Similar wordings have been enshrined in the association's program of principles at least since 2008.

The wording, which was adopted at the Young Left's latest congress in January, has been noticed and criticized by, among others, the Moderates' Member of Parliament Jan Ericson (M) on Twitter.

"Understand the critique"

How then does the chairman of the Young Left, Ava Rudberg, view the legacy of communism, and the criticism of the communist regimes that are responsible for the murders of tens of millions of people?

- I really understand that criticism and I understand that it is the connection that many have to the word.

No one who is active in the Young Left lived during that time, and there is nothing that we either back or fight for.

We want a society that is free from oppression, says Ava Rudberg.

Ava Rudberg believes that it is possible to make comparisons across party lines.

- There are also liberals who are in favor of bombing Iraq, and there is nothing to blame liberalism for.

I do not mean to blame here, but different words have meant different things at different times.

The party leader distances himself

In an interview with SVT in November last year, the Left Party's party leader Nooshi Dadgostar says that the mother party, the Left Party, has nothing to do with communism.

What do you think about communism?

- Bad, we completely distance ourselves from, said Nooshi Dadgostar to SVT Rapport 1 November 2020.

Nooshi Dadgostar has been vice chairman of the Young Left, and in the years 2006 - 2009 she was federal treasurer of the youth union.

SVT Nyheter has contacted the Left Party and party leader Nooshi Dadgostar (V) for a comment on the youth union's goal of communism.
