Trier (dpa) - The Trier regulatory officer Thomas Schmitt (CDU) resigns because of his first vaccination against Corona, which he was not entitled to.

On Friday, Schmitt admitted his mistake on the city's website.

"The responsibility for this wrong decision lies solely with me," he wrote.

There was no “systemic fault on the part of the vaccination center or the city administration”.

Schmitt said that on January 15th he once again visited the vaccination center in the Moselle town to thank the staff there.

At the end of the opening hours there were still five doses of an opened ampoule left.

He received one of them after all the staff at the center and the staff of a nearby rescue station had already been vaccinated or had already received their vaccination in the past.

"This was a big mistake, as I realized on the way home," he wrote.

He canceled the second vaccination three weeks ago.

"Everyone should have got the vaccination, but not me," emphasized the local politician.

"It would also have been more responsible for the dose to have expired, because I see the damage I have caused in the credibility."
