Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Because of the Corona restrictions, significantly fewer guests stayed in Hamburg in December than in the same month last year.

The number of overnight stays fell by 87.4 percent to 147,000 and the number of guests by 90.5 percent to 55,000, as the North Statistics Office announced on Friday.

322 open accommodation facilities were included in the survey.

The average bed occupancy was only 9.2 percent.

According to the statistics office, the reason for the decline is the ban on accommodation for private travelers that has been in force since the beginning of November 2020.

There was also a sharp slump in Hamburg for the entire year 2020: The number of overnight stays fell by 55.4 percent to around 6.88 million and the number of guests by 58.4 percent to 3.17 million.

The figures include accommodation providers with ten or more beds and campsites.
