Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - During the corona pandemic, the number of right-wing crimes in North Rhine-Westphalia only decreased slightly last year.

In 2020 the authorities counted 3,383 of these acts, reports the "Neue Westfälische" (Friday edition) from a response by the North Rhine-Westphalian state government to a small request from the Greens in the state parliament.

In 2019 the number was 300 higher.

According to the answer, the number of “xenophobic crimes” even rose slightly from 1177 in 2019 to 1267.

"The figures at hand show once again that human contempt and hatred are the mainspring of right-wing extremism," said Verena Schäffer, Chairwoman of the Greens in the NRW state parliament on the anniversary of the racist attack in Hanau (February 19, 2020).

According to Schäffer, these figures are a "particularly painful reminder of the permanent threat from right-wing extremism to our diverse democratic society."
