Hanover (dpa / lni) - Numerous parents of daycare children are putting pressure on opening daycare centers earlier.

"The difficult situation of families and children is still not taken seriously," criticized Christine Heymann-Splinter from the state parents' representative of the Lower Saxony daycare centers on Friday.

It is still unclear when childcare will be restarted.

Lower Saxony is at the bottom of the list when it comes to considering the rights and needs of children.

The parents are demanding that the daycare centers be reopened now, depending on the corona infection situation in the districts and cities - with limited operation and with additional rapid tests.

A corresponding online petition already has more than 3,500 signatories.

The daycare centers currently only offer emergency care for a maximum of half of the children.

Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) had announced that the daycare centers should open “in March” in restricted operations - provided that the number of infections falls by then.

From April onwards, the state government's step-by-step plan should apply.

This provides for restricted regular operation with a nationwide seven-day value below 50 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
