Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Senator for Health Dilek Kalayci (SPD) supports the demand that teachers, among other things, receive a corona vaccination earlier than previously planned.

The governing mayor Michael Müller (SPD) had told the «Tagesspiegel» that it should be checked which groups could be vaccinated next with the vaccine from Astrazeneca to ensure its use.

Müller had suggested teachers, educators, police and fire brigade for this.

"We will implement what the Governing Mayor has announced in Berlin," said Kalayci on Friday.

The background to this is the discussion about the cautious use of the Astrazeneca vaccine, which in Germany has only been injected until the age of 65.

Scientists believe that the reservations about the preparation are unfounded.

Kalayci pointed out that Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) would have to adapt the federal vaccination ordinance accordingly so that employees in the education sector could be brought forward in the vaccination sequence.

Berlin is preparing for it.

According to the vaccination ordinance, people over 80, nursing home residents and nursing staff as well as medical staff with an increased risk of corona infection should be vaccinated.

Teachers would be much later in the order of the groups to be vaccinated.

Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has now asked Spahn in a letter on Thursday to check whether teachers and educators could already be vaccinated with the Astrazeneca preparation.

Kalayci said she thought Astrazeneca was a good vaccine.

The hospitals had signaled to her that the demand for vaccinations was definitely there.

"We actually have to look at the doctors in private practice for a few more days to see if there is demand."
