Grimmen (dpa / mv) - The citizens of Grimmen (Western Pomerania-Rügen) can presumably elect a new mayor in June.

The city announced on Friday that the election should take place on June 6th.

A possible runoff election would therefore take place two weeks later.

The long-time mayor, Benno Rüster, died at the end of January after a short, serious illness at the age of 60.

The CDU politician held the office for almost 20 years.

The mayor is elected in Grimmen for seven years.
