In the Schleswig-Holstein Corona hotspot Flensburg, the mutated variant of the virus has prevailed.

According to Mayor Simone Lange (SPD), infections are almost exclusively found with mutants.

In the past few days, these have been proven in 80 cases, Lange said on Friday.

For February the proportion is 50 percent.

Due to the high number of infections in the city, residents will initially be subject to a night curfew for one week from Saturday.

It affects the time between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

There are exceptions, for example on the way to work or to the doctor.

In addition, private meetings are initially prohibited in Flensburg.

The increase in the proportion of mutations and the expected increase in incidence "give us the right to initiate these very serious but necessary measures," said Lange.

She announced strict controls.

Violations of the regulation can result in high fines.

Anyone who has to be on the road should be able to identify themselves and carry a certificate from their employer, for example.

The city of Flensburg also wants to help contain the pandemic with free rapid tests.

Initially, 70,000 tests would be available.

Lange appealed to the city's residents to recognize the seriousness of the situation: “The mutation is spreading incredibly quickly.

We are in a race against time here. ”Everyone is asked to reorganize everyday life so that one is home by 9:00 pm.

The seven-day incidence for Flensburg on Thursday was 177.5.

The value shows how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were infected within seven days.

The target is a value of 35.

"If it should be necessary, we will take rigorous action"

The police also want to control the night curfew and the ban on contact.

Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) campaigned for understanding for the measures.

“We have to go through that now.

It's about preventing the mutated viruses from spreading. ”This can only be done by reducing the number of contacts.

"The sooner we manage that, the sooner we can dispense with the tightened measures."

The head of the Flensburg police department, Olaf Schulz, announced an increased presence of the police in the city area.

“We will be visible to everyone and carry out the controls.” The officials primarily focused on the dialogue with the population.

"If it should become necessary, however, we will take rigorous action."

Denmark closes several border crossings

Denmark closes several smaller border crossings to Germany due to the Corona situation in Flensburg.

Because of the worsening infection situation in the northern German Fördestadt, the Danish government decided to intensify the use on the German-Danish border, the Ministry of Justice announced in Copenhagen on Friday.

In concrete terms, this means that the Danish police will close a total of 13 border crossings from midnight on Saturday night.

Important transitions such as Frøslev, Kruså and Padborg, however, remain open.

The ministry said that the controls there were "much more intensive".

The measures therefore apply temporarily with a view to clarifying the situation south of the border.

"Border controls are an important and necessary tool to keep new chains of infection out of the country," said Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup.
