Villeurbanne (dpa) - The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich suffered a setback in the fight for the Euroleague playoffs.

At the French Club Villeurbanne, the German top team lost 79:87 (35:44) on Friday evening and lost for the first time after three wins in a row.

With 15 successes and ten defeats, the Munich team still have a good chance of making it into the knockout round for the first time.

Until shortly before the break it was a completely even match.

Neither the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri nor the hosts from near Lyon were able to pull away (33: 33/19th minute).

Then the first Bayern break-in followed.

The Munich team only got two counters before the break.

Even at the beginning of the third quarter, the southern Germans were not up to date.

Villeurbanne quickly extended the lead to 51:35 (23rd minute) and apparently made a preliminary decision.

In the middle of the third quarter, with a deficit of 18 points (41:59), it also looked like a clear success for the French.
