Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - After an investigation on Autobahn 44 near Krefeld, a noise barrier element there is removed.
Autobahn GmbH Rheinland announced on Friday that a suspension was damaged in the north tube of a tunnel during a special test.
“To protect all road users”, a lane was therefore temporarily closed.
It was initially unclear whether there was a specific danger.
In order to rule out any risk, the component is now simply removed, said a spokesman.
That happens either on Friday or Saturday.
"After a closer look, you can tell whether there was really any danger or not," he said.
According to an initial assessment, the element was a «similar» design to the tragic incident on the A3 in Cologne.
In November, a heavy plate had come loose from a soundproof wall there and killed a woman driver.
The subsequent examination revealed that the panel in question had been incorrectly attached during installation.
