February 19, 2021 The Covid-19 pandemic overcomes another tragic barrier since its appearance just over a year ago, that of 110 million total infections.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the disease has infected 110,306,032 people to date, of whom 2,441,582 have lost their lives.

In the last 24 hours, from 6.30 yesterday morning to the same time today, the new coronavirus caused 404,942 infections and 11,486 with a decrease of 3,151 and 67 victims compared to yesterday.

These are numbers which, albeit tragic, still confirm the stabilization of the epidemic at lower (but still worrying) values compared to what had been seen from November to the first week of the current month.

The United States remains by far the most affected nation and has now passed the threshold of 490 thousand victims (493,082) out of 27 million and 896 thousand confirmed infections.

On the contagion front, the ranking (limited to nations that have exceeded two million cases) continues with India (10.96 million), Brazil (10.03), Russia (4.12), Great Britain (4.09), France (3.59), Spain (3.12), Italy (2.76), Turkey (2.61), Germany (2.37), Colombia ( 2.21), Argentina (2.04) and Mexico (2.02).

The situation changes if we look at the data relating to mortality.

In this case, Brazil ranks second behind the US with 243,457 victims, while Mexico mourns 178,108 deaths in third place.

Again in terms of mortality, behind Mexico is India (156,111) while in fifth position is Great Britain, the first European country to have exceeded the threshold of 100 thousand victims (119,614), while in sixth place is the ' Italy (94,887) then France (83,542) and Russia (81,926).
