Karlsruhe (dpa) - Proud mom or curious offspring among the meerkats?
In the Karlsruhe Zoo, a young animal that was only a few days old showed itself outside the litter box.
"It is rather unusual that young meerkats can be seen so early," said a zoo spokesman on Friday.
The baby was only seen for a brief moment in the enclosure with the 14 other meerkats.
Then mother Evi carried it back into the building.
According to the zoo, the meerkats live in matriarchy.
Only dominant females are allowed to breed within the group.
It was initially not known whether there were any other young animals in the litter box.
