A Sudanese refugee stabbed an employee at a center for asylum seekers in the city of Bau (southern France), and killed him on Friday, after the refugee was informed that his application for political asylum had been rejected.

French media reported that the asylum seeker was using the services of the center, and that the victim was the head of the asylum service there, and that he was stabbed in the neck.

A security source explained that the victim was a 46-year-old director of a department at a reception center for asylum seekers in Pau, and he died shortly after receiving several stab wounds from the 38-year-old Sudanese aggressor who was stopped.

On Friday, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan said that he would go to the asylum seekers' center in Pau, and that he would offer his "condolences to the victim's family and relatives."

The assailant is known to the police for having committed acts of violence and has previously served a prison sentence.

But it was not known to the intelligence services, and a source familiar with the file said that the attack was not considered a terrorist.
