Alpenrod (AP) - Two 14-year-olds broke into a frozen lake in Alpenrod (Westerwaldkreis).

One of the two was able to save himself and call for help, the other was rescued by rescue workers.

The young people ran onto the ice surface of the Tongrube lake on Thursday, the police said.

When they got to the center, they broke in.

After one had saved himself and got help, rescue workers were finally able to help the other boy with instructions to come towards the bank.

There he was reportedly pulled out with a rope.

The hypothermic 14-year-olds were taken to hospitals.

One could only explain the incident with “youthful recklessness”, said a police spokesman.

The temperatures would have been well above zero degrees.

The police again issued an urgent warning against entering frozen waters.
