Essen (dpa) - The British steel group Liberty Steel wants to pursue its plans to buy the steel division of Thyssenkrupp even after the cancellation from Essen.

The talks were "suspended at the moment due to different price expectations," said a company spokesman on Thursday.

"We are keeping the door open, however," he added.

Liberty is still convinced that “we have presented the only long-term sustainable plan for Thyssenkrupp's steel business, and we will continue to strive to close the valuation gap in due course”.

Thyssenkrupp had ended talks with competitor Liberty Steel on a possible acquisition of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe on Wednesday evening.

There were several reasons for this, emphasized Thyssenkrupp CFO Klaus Keysberg in an employee information sheet.

On the one hand, the ideas for evaluating the business were too far apart.

On the other hand, no joint solution had been found to questions of the financing structure and securities.

"Overall, the ideas were so far apart that a continuation of the talks would not have brought us any further," said Keysberg.
