The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, urged the political parties in Lebanon to give priority to the national interest and to accelerate the formation of a new government.

This came during a meeting Thursday morning with the Emir of Qatar, the Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who is currently visiting Qatar.

The Qatar News Agency reported that during the meeting, the most prominent developments in Lebanon were reviewed. Al-Hariri briefed the Emir of Qatar on the latest developments in the situation and the efforts related to forming the government in Lebanon.

In this regard, the Emir of Qatar affirmed the position of the State of Qatar in support of Lebanon and its people, calling on all Lebanese parties to give priority to the national interest to accelerate the formation of a new government to face the crises and challenges facing Lebanon.

The meeting also covered a number of issues of common concern.

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister and Qatari Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani met with the Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.

Economic affairs

The Qatar News Agency (QNA) stated that the meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation relations, especially in economic affairs, in addition to issues of common concern.

The agency indicated that the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed the State of Qatar's continued support for the brothers in Lebanon for development and prosperity.

For his part, the Lebanese Prime Minister in charge of the State of Qatar congratulated the Gulf reconciliation.

This visit comes days after the visit of the Qatari foreign minister to Lebanon, which included a meeting with his former Lebanese counterpart, Gebran Bassil, and a contact with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, as part of Qatari efforts to find common ground and consensus to form a Lebanese government.
