Essen (dpa) - The current extreme weather conditions in the US state of Texas are now also having an impact on the German energy company RWE.

The company announced on Thursday evening in Essen that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) in the Onshore Wind / Solar segment will be impacted by a low to mid three-digit million euro amount in the current year.

The background is weather-related failures of wind turbines and high electricity prices.

Due to government measures, according to the announcement, RWE currently has to buy electricity volumes “at exceptionally high prices”.

A final assessment of the actual effects is not yet possible at the current time.

A severe onset of winter is currently plaguing parts of the United States and has led to massive power outages.

The state of Texas in the south of the country is hardest hit.

In the past few days, several million people in Texas have been without electricity.

The Washington Post reported that water supplies were also cut in several cities in Texas.
