Cologne (dpa / lnw) - After a - miraculously not fatal - headshot in a drug dispute, the Cologne district court sentenced the shooter to eight years in prison.

It found the 43-year-old guilty of attempted manslaughter on Thursday.

In May 2020 in Bergisch Gladbach, the defendant suddenly pulled a gun during a dispute and shot a 23-year-old in the head from close range.

The background to the dispute was that the 23-year-old felt himself betrayed by the Italian in joint drug deals.

The father of two and real estate agent and the later victim ran an illegal cannabis plantation in a single family home.

When the younger found out that the defendant wanted to set up another plantation behind his back, the argument broke out.

The 23-year-old survived the shot - but the bullet injured both eyes on its way through the head.

Today the man is blind and lives again in his Albanian homeland.

He needs help around the clock.

He was heard as a witness in the process via video switch via a request for legal assistance to the local judicial authorities.

When asked how he is today, the man replied through an interpreter: "I'm alive, but actually I'm dead."

The judgment is not final.

The accused can go on appeal.
