A study by Médiamétrie on the French and the Internet published Wednesday, estimates that we spent an average of 2h25 per day on the web in 2020. Different consumption and centers of interest, which reflect an unprecedented era marked by the Covid crisis. 19 and the sanitary measures it brought about. 

The year 2020 will have been special in more than one way.

With lockdowns and curfews, our lifestyles have been turned upside down.

We spent more time at home and in front of our screens, as shown by a Médiamétrie study on the French and the Internet released on Wednesday.

Last year, we surfed an average of 2h25 per day, which is 20 minutes more than in 2019.

This new way of consuming the web is not the only one to have evolved.

Our research and our areas of interest have also changed.

An unprecedented craze has indeed been observed around DIY sites such as Leroy Merlin, ManoMano or Castorama.

Their attendance has increased by 14% in one year and 18 million French people come every month to look for ideas.

Another trend highlighted by the study is the rise of Made in France.

Reference brands have also experienced a very significant influx of Internet users, with an increase of 42% in one year.

TikTok audience quadruples

Once the shopping was done, the French turned to another occupation: Netflix, Amazon Prime or even Disney +.

Streaming sites grew by 37% last year, with a special mention for the giant Netflix, which now sees 19 million French people connect to its platform every month.

And to talk about all that precisely, we rushed on social networks.

There too a significant difference was noted by Médiamétrie since 15-24 year olds spent an average of 2h12 hours per day, against 45 minutes for 25-49 year olds.

Among the most popular networks, Whatsapp, Snapchat and especially TikTok, whose audience has quadrupled in one year.

Finally, Covid-19 requires, we had to find niches to be tested or vaccinated against the virus.

And here too, frequentation of medical appointment booking sites, Doctolib in the lead, increased by 26%.
