The explosion of a letter bomb injured three people working in an administrative center of German distribution giant Lidl on Wednesday, police and the company said.

Two people were "slightly injured" and the third "quite seriously" during the explosion which took place in the afternoon at the Neckarsulm site, near Stuttgart, in the south-west of Germany, police said in a statement.

Rescuers and a helicopter were deployed on the site, while the police had to evacuate a hundred employees of the discount specialist.

"In the current state of the investigation it is a letter sent by post which exploded in the building", underlined the police force, without providing further details.

"We are shocked by what has happened and wish our employees a speedy recovery," the company told German news agency dpa in the evening.
