The Paris Assize Court on Wednesday sentenced ex-Secretary of State Georges Tron to five years in prison, including three years in prison, for rape and sexual assault in a meeting on an employee of his town hall in Draveil in 2009- 2010.

His co-accused Brigitte Gruel, then his deputy for Culture, was sentenced to two years suspended.

The court, however, acquitted the two accused of similar acts alleged against them by a second complainant.

Nine years after the start of this affair, the mayor LR of Draveil (Essonne) was retried alongside his former deputy for Culture, Brigitte Gruel.

Two women of 42 and 44, Virginie Ettel and Eva Loubrieu, accused them of having imposed touching and digital penetrations on them between 2007 and 2010 during three-way relationships.

Georges Tron forced to resign from his post of Secretary of State

The affair broke out in May 2011, ten days after the resounding arrest in New York of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, then head of the International Monetary Fund, accused of rape by a maid.

The former deputy, mayor of Draveil (30,000 inhabitants) since 1995, was forced to resign on May 29, 2011 from his post of Secretary of State for the Civil Service.

The 62-year-old defendants, who have always claimed their innocence, had been acquitted in November 2018 by the Seine-Saint-Denis Assize Court.

The prosecution had appealed.

At first instance, the Advocate General had requested six years in prison against Georges Tron and four against Brigitte Gruel.

He also demanded five years of ineligibility and their inclusion in the register of sex offenders.
