Rostock / Stralsund (dpa / mv) - With protests on Wednesday, the IG Metall Coast wants to emphasize its demands for the MV Werften, threatened by job cuts.

The union has called for actions in front of the shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde and in front of the union building in downtown Stralsund.

She demands that the federal government provide money from the economic stabilization fund as soon as possible and an extension of the short-time work regulation.

Politicians should also help generate orders, and enough money should be given to transfer companies for employees who lose their jobs.

Last week, the shipyard management informed the employees that more than a third of the approximately 3,000 positions at the MV Werften with locations in Wismar, Warnemünde and Stralsund are available.

The shipyard in Stralsund could be most at risk.

According to information from IG Metall, there are plans to only keep a construction department with a rump team if there are no follow-up orders.

The multi-group Genting Hong Kong, which took over the shipyards in 2016, ran into difficulties in the wake of the corona pandemic: Profits from amusement parks and gambling fell sharply, and the cruise line began to falter.
