Hanover / Oldenburg (dpa / lni) - Vaccination against Corona for all those willing to vaccinate will be possible from the summer according to Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil.

“Unfortunately we still have too little vaccine,” said the SPD politician in an interview with the “Nordwest-Zeitung” from Oldenburg.

That will change significantly in the second quarter.

According to the manufacturers, the supply chains are now stable and reliable.

"That is why we can now give significantly more vaccine right away in the first vaccination and no longer have to build up large reserves for the second vaccination," said Weil.

In March, the first priority group of the over-80s will be vaccinated.

Then it is the turn of the next group.

"Our main goal is that in the third quarter all those who want to be vaccinated are vaccinated through the vaccination centers that have been expanded again and the general practitioners," said Weil.

"Then we have the real breakthrough."

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Lower Saxony has so far had the lowest rate of first vaccinations of all federal states.

As of Wednesday, only 2.9 percent of the population had received the first vaccination, the national average was 3.5 percent.

1.6 percent of the population in Lower Saxony received the second vaccination, only in Hesse the value is lower at 1.5 percent.
