In December 2019, the Supreme State Security Prosecution in Egypt had ordered Sorour, who was returning from the United States at the time, to be imprisoned for 15 days pending investigation, and the Egyptian Prosecutor charged Sorour with committing crimes "the participation of a terrorist group in achieving its goals and receiving funding for a terrorist purpose." Participating in a criminal agreement aimed at committing a terrorist crime, receiving funding, participating in a criminal agreement, unauthorized gathering, and using private accounts on the international information network with the aim of committing a crime punishable by law with the aim of disturbing public order.

The case in which Sorour is accused is known as the "Al-Saffair Case" No. 488, and includes many famous personalities, most notably the leftist leader Kamal Khalil, academics Hazem Hosni and Hassan Nafaa, activists Mahienour Al-Masry, Israa Abdel Fattah, Khaled Dawood, Amr Imam and Hussam Al-Sayyad, as well as journalist Sulafa Magdy. Some of them were released in earlier times.

This case coincided with the campaign "You are not alone," launched by the opposition broadcaster Moataz Matar, during which he called on the Egyptians to sound the sirens from their balconies, to reassure the Egyptians that the majority opposes Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his regime.

The prosecution's accusations were based on a video Shady posted on his YouTube channel in April 2017, in which he criticized the Egyptian president, and also broadcast an episode mocking Sisi and his supporters, in conjunction with the demonstrations that took place on September 20 in response to the call of the actor and contractor Mohamed Ali to demonstrate.

However, Shadi's failure to appear on his various platforms on the communication sites or the issuance of any statement from him and being satisfied with a picture at the expense of one of his friends raised doubts among some about the authenticity of the news, especially after the statements of lawyer Hala Duma in which he denied the release of the famous YouTuber, while a number of his followers wished that The news of his release is true.

Shady Sorour's social media platforms have a wide following, as the total of his followers on YouTube and Facebook exceeds 11 million followers, and Sorour is famous for his satirical recordings in which he performs a social message in a comic style, but he also raises controversy in some of the videos he publishes on his channel, such as his thinking In suicide, and his declaration of atheism, before announcing his return to Islam again.

The release of Shady Sorour, I wish, would be real news
