  • The Hôtel de la Duchesse-Anne was renowned for its standing and its art deco facade.

  • It was heavily damaged in 2004 by an accidental fire.

  • Unoccupied since the disaster, it is now demolished.

" Such a waste !

".

In front of the construction site started on Monday, Daniel attends the show of demolition machines.

Unoccupied and partially in ruins since 2004, the old hotel of the Duchess-Anne, located near the castle of the Dukes of Brittany in Nantes, is being destroyed.

An operation carried out by the co-owners (a Parisian SCI and the Giboire group) at the request of the city of Nantes, which had adopted a dangerous decree with regard to the significant damage to the building "likely to endanger public security" .

Clearly, pieces threatened to collapse despite the preventive demolition, in 2015, from the top of the facade.

The demolition will now continue until March.

Many Nantes residents are amazed at the demolition of the former Hôtel Duchesse -Anne.

What future for the site?

Built in 1874, the Hotel Duchesse-Anne has long been one of the most famous establishments in the City of the Dukes.

"This is where the stars used to go when they came to Nantes," recalls Daniel.

Its art deco style architecture, added in the 1930s, was itself remarkable.

But the four-story building was destroyed by fire in June 2004. And the work was then blocked by disagreements between owners.

Having become co-owner in 2014, the real estate developer Giboire had a renovation project to fit out 30 to 40 luxury apartments.

By saving, if possible, the facade.

The disappearance of the building will force the two co-owners to get back around the table, in connection with the town hall of Nantes and the architect of the Buildings of France, the sector being safeguarded.
