Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony is expanding the entry options for commuters from the Czech Republic.

Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) informed about a corresponding change in the quarantine regulation on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting in Dresden.

While previously employees in the fields of medicine and care, as well as livestock husbandry and freight transport, were able to pass through on entry despite stricter controls, this now also affects commuters, who are important for the functionality of other industries.

The regulation should apply from Wednesday.

Specifically, Köpping named the areas of water, energy, sewage and waste management, transport and traffic, pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, funeral services, the food industry, information technology and telecommunications as well as laboratories and medical facilities.

The condition is a negative corona test upon entry, daily testing and an official certificate issued by the districts and urban districts.

A transition period is expected to apply until next Sunday, during which employees can only enter the country upon presentation of their employment contract.

People who enter Saxony for humanitarian reasons are also exempt from the quarantine obligation.

First-degree relatives are allowed in the event of death.

The same applies to the birth of one's own child, to entry for compelling medical reasons or if relatives are required as custodians.

For fear of the British Corona variant, the Federal Government declared the Czech Republic a virus variant area and temporarily introduced stationary border controls.

Since Sunday, only Germans and foreigners with a residence and residence permit in Germany have been allowed to enter from the neighboring country.

There are exceptions for health workers, commuters in systemically important professions and truck drivers.
