According to TASS, Navalny was brought in a paddy wagon from the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center a few hours before the start of the trial.
The meeting should begin at 10:00 Moscow time.
The court is expected to hold a plea of the parties on Tuesday, during which the prosecutor will ask for punishment for Navalny.
Earlier it was reported that Navalny refused to admit his guilt.
The IC opened a criminal case against Navalny on suspicion of libel against Artyomenko in June 2020.
