Travel restrictions are hampering flight bookings for this summer.

To convince travelers, airlines are betting on "reassuring" destinations, such as Overseas and Corsica.

But the French are still cautious, still fearing to see their flights canceled.

The first half of 2021 promises to be very disturbed, but the airlines already have their action plan for this summer.

Reservations for the summer holidays usually start with the February holidays, but are hampered this year by the uncertainty of the health crisis.

While the opening of borders outside the European Union remains uncertain, companies are betting on "safe haven" destinations, to which travelers will not be afraid of having their flights canceled at the last moment.

Air France, for example, has strengthened its offer of flights to Corsica and the French overseas territories.

The company plans 56 flights per week to Fort-de-France, Pointe-à-Pitre, Cayenne and Saint-Denis de la Réunion.

Transavia will for its part launch seasonal lines from Brest, Nantes and Montpellier to Ile de Beauté.

The French are still cautious

French destinations are the only ones to be searched on the Internet.

A sign that despite the health crisis, the French are timidly starting to imagine themselves on a beach this summer, explains Julie Gallot, spokesperson for travel comparator Liligo.

"These are destinations on which they manage to project themselves, compared to other more popular destinations last year such as Montreal, New York or Los Angeles, which today are completely inaccessible."

For the moment, however, the French are cautious.

Few reservations are taken upstream, it is the last minute that has become the norm.

In order to reassure customers, the major airlines have decided to extend their modification offers and the reimbursement of tickets free of charge.
