The idea for a "teddy bear match" came to the club from a football match in the Netherlands where purchased teddy bears in the stands gave money to charity.

The project in Oskarshamn has been led by the former OIK player and audience favorite Arsi Piispanen.

- I am very proud that people have lined up so much.

The players in Oskarshamn and Växjö have also bought teddy bears, he tells SVT.

Over half a million collected

The club's goal was to fill the arena with at least 3,000 stuffed animals, which would give about half a million kronor to the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

But already on Monday, the goal was achieved with flying colors.

A few hours left until the match, almost SEK 600,000 had been collected.

More than 3,000 teddy bears were waiting in the stands for the evening's first drawing.

 - Fantastic initiative by the club and fun to finally see a packed arena, says Nichlas Torp in IK Oskarshamn who is warming up for tonight's clash.

The match between Oskarshamn and Växjö will be played on Tuesday night starting at 19.
