Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - The Tübingen emergency doctor Lisa Federle welcomed the rapid test initiative by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) with relief.

Spahn had announced that all citizens in Germany could be tested for the corona virus free of charge with rapid tests from March 1.

"This measure was overdue," said Federle on Tuesday.

Federle started rapid tests in Tübingen at the end of November, which she finances with donations.

These rapid tests have been shown to have a noticeable effect on the incidence in the Tübingen district, said Federle.

The emergency doctor criticized Social Minister Manfred Lucha (Greens) again.

Since October, she has asked Lucha several times to take care of the provision and financing of the rapid tests.

These urgent requests bounced off the minister like a concrete wall.

"Lucha just didn't get into the puss," said Federle.

She is tired of doing the work of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Rapid tests are one of the most important ways to keep an eye on the infection process when schools, daycare centers, hairdressers' shops and in companies are opened, said Federle.

Based on the Tübingen model, many districts, cities, municipalities across the country and nationwide had implemented the Tübingen rapid test strategy.

It is now important to use a clear test strategy to find out which groups are particularly at risk and then to adapt the measures accordingly, said Federle.

Lucha said of Spahn's advance that the aspect would flow directly into the top-level discussion on the country's test strategy on Wednesday.

Lucha also announced that he was planning to build a large state reserve of self-tests as soon as they were approved.

A cabinet proposal is already in progress.
