Potsdam (dpa / bb) - With the start of the first vaccinations of the Astrazeneca vaccine this Wednesday, nurses and employees in medical facilities in Brandenburg should also receive protection against the corona virus.

The Ministry of Health called on them on Tuesday to make appointments at the respective vaccination centers.

Numerous vaccination appointments are still available.

For the vaccination, the employees needed a certificate from their employer.

Hospital workers can be vaccinated in their facilities, it said.

According to the ministry, several vaccination lanes for vaccinations with Astrazeneca are set up in each of the eleven vaccination centers in the country.

A special number is available for scheduling appointments.

The call center can be reached every day.

“In view of the current shortage of vaccines, it is important that we use all available vaccine doses as quickly as possible,” said Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens).

Astrazeneca is an approved and highly effective vaccine that is recommended for people under 65 years of age.

Therefore, nurses and employees in medical facilities should first be given a vaccination offer.

According to Holger Rostek, deputy chairman of the Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVBB), the call center staff will now specifically call care facilities and inform them about the vaccination offer with Astrazeneca.

Brandenburg has received 21,600 vaccination doses from Astrazeneca so far, and a further 21,600 vaccination doses are expected on Thursday.

According to a delivery overview by the Federal Ministry of Health, a total of 170 400 vaccine doses by the manufacturer are to be delivered by April 1.
